Dr. Simon Loretz joined the WIFO as a Senior Researcher (Public Finances) in September 2017. Prior to joining the WIFO he was a senior economist at the Institute for Advanced studies in Vienna, a lecturer at University of Bayreuth, a research fellow at the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation, and a research assistant at the University of Innsbruck. He completed his doctorate at the University of Innsbruck and obtained his habilitation at the University of Bayreuth. In addition to his academic background, he has been working on various applied research projects for national (e.g. Austrian Ministry of Finance) and international (e.g. European Commission) policy makers. He currently takes the role of a scientific coordinator for a framework contract for the provision of economic analysis in the area of taxation with the European Commission DG TAXUD. His research interests include international taxation, tax competition and harmonisation, fiscal federalism and applied microeconometrics.
